At W.F. Ready we believe:

  • Given the right time, opportunity, and focused instruction, most students can make meaning from words
  • Reading should be for both purpose and enjoyment
  • Teachers are one of the essential components in a student’s success in learning to read
  • Balance is important in reading instruction and practice
  • Students require access to a vast variety of reading materials within the classroom, school and home
  • Family and community are essential partners in achieving student’s success in learning to read
  • Oral language is the foundation in reading instruction

We have enjoyed our 2016 Battle of the Books experience. It was wonderful to have a record 11 teams competing! ALL participants are winners - reading enriches our world in countless ways.

W.S. Hawrylak School hosted the southeast Battle of the Books final tournament on April 21st . Prior to this event, a south final and east final were held to determine who would advance. A total of 20 teams were vying for one of the eight spots in the southeast final. Partcipants included teams from Argyle, Davin, W.S. Hawrylak, Wilfred Hunt, Lakeview, Jack MacKenzie, Massey, Ethel Milliken, W.F. Ready, and Wilfrid Walker Schools. Students began their preparaton for this contest many months ago and competed for the opportunity to progress to the southeast final. Competiton was fierce and resulted in a three‐way tie for first place after the regular round of questons. All teams represented their schools with outstanding enthusiasm and an impressive level of knowledge.    Congratulatons W.F. Ready (second place) - earning trophies after an incredibly hard fought battle. Way to go!
